ELEMENT’S CREATIVE EDUCATION PROJECTS

Our schools sessions run as a weekly after-school club, lasting one full term. As a delivery partner of West London Zone we have worked in 5 secondary schools across West London. We have worked with groups of students at-risk of exclusion; students with communication and/or behavioural challenges; students with low self-confidence; and students with little to no access to the creative arts. All our schools sessions employ our Element approach, of using creativity to encourage self-expression and positive exploration of identity. Students explore our core “elements” through creating their own, multiple pieces of art that are then showcased at the end of the term to parents, peers, and teachers. We have also developed bespoke sessions for specific student groups, including a project focussing on how to positively manage change; and a project focussing on experimentation and working as a team. All sessions are facilitated by an Element Creative Facilitator, with robust experience working in a variety of mainstream and alternative education settings.

Element Creative Education projects improve the general self-efficacy of students. Through this validated evaluation tool, we principally measure whether our project has had a positive effect on students’ perceptions of their own ability to problem solve; to achieve their goals; and to regulate their emotions. We believe these are crucial skills for thriving in school - personally, socially, and academically. So far, 85% of students reported an increase in their general self efficacy post-project, and 83% rated themselves as more creative.
